Recently, the windsurfing world has been captivated by Bonaire's delegation to events. Formerly known as The Bonaire Kids, the island's local windsurfers have moved on to become famous throughout the windsurfing world for their dynamic freestyle moves.

Tonky Frans, (Sail Number NB7) was born Everon Frans on March, 30, 1983 and is best known for his Freestyle.

2002 was his first year on the PWA Tour, and he is sponsored by The Team, Gaastra, F2, Fiberspar, Jibe City, and G Sport.

Tonky is currently ranked 5th with the PWA.

Tonky tell us: "I started windsurfing when I was about 10, I saw a board by the water where I grew up, and wanted to ask if I could use it. But I was shy and it took some time, but I finally asked, then everything happened so fast. I started going out every day after school and every time I learned something new.

"When I won the King of the Caribbean it was the first time I felt like a real pro, it was the first competition that I won so much, it was like a movie – at the end all the good stuff comes. The crowd gave me so much strength, I felt that the people on Bonaire were with me and I could do anything."

Taty Frans (Sail Number NB9), was born Elton Frans on May 24, 1984, and followed in his older brother's footsteps by specializing in Freestyle and by making 2002 his first PWA Tour. Taty is currently ranked 2nd in PWA Freestyle. Taty is sponsored by The Team, Maui Sails, Starboard, Fiberspar, Jibe City, and G Sport Fins. Taty talks about his start in windsurfing: "I have been windsurfing since I was 12 and am one of the Bonaire Kids who is in the water training every day with my brothers Tonky and Choko, who push me to be better and better at Freestyle. I have a big smile when I am with my friends, we always laugh and are happy. My goals for the future season are to do all the freestyle events, focusing on the title. I want to thank my Grandma and Grandpa for letting us do what we love to do. I feel like this year is my year, so watch out."
